Dr. Christine CalvertDr. Christine Calvert

Dr. Calvert is a native of the Pasadena area and is a graduate of Chesapeake Senior High School.  After graduating from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor's in Biochemistry followed by a Doctorate of  Veterinary Medicine, she practiced at Bayside Animal Medical Center in Severna Park, MD.  From there, she took the Chief of Staff position at Crofton Veterinary Center where she practiced medicine and managed the hospital for over two years. Since she made Pasadena her home, it only made sense to open her new veterinary practice there too.  Dr. Calvert has become particularly proficient in laser surgery having performed the technique for over 9 years and will continue to improve her skills with this special tool.  She also has strong interests in feline medicine, greyhounds, rabbits, and  pocket pets.

Her family of pets include Dodger, a greyhound, Annie, a rescued greyhound, and Penelope, a himalayan cat.  Dr. Calvert is a member of the Feline Pracitioners Association, the Veterinary Laser Society, American Veterinary Medical Association, Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, and the Anne Arundel County Veterinary Medical Association.  She attends at least one major continuing education meeting each year.

On her days off, Dr. Calvert is busy with her twin boys Adam and Alex. She is an active member of Annapolis Mothers of Multiples and the Pasadena Business Association.  Her husband, Ken King, is a physical education teacher, and baseball coach at Chesapeake High School. When not occupied with one of the above activities, he also enjoys fishing.

 


 

Dr. Karen Van Kirk Dr. Karen Van Kirk

Dr. Van Kirk is also a graduate of Virginia Tech and has practiced in the area for over 20 years at Glen Burnie Animal Hospital. She now joins our hospital on a part-time basis.  Dr. Van Kirk is very compassionate and treats each patient as if it were her own pet.











 


 

 

Dr. Sarah BruhlDr. Sarah Bruhl

Dr. Bruhl was born and raised in Annandale in Northern Virginia.  She graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA in 1998 with a major in economics.  She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech in 2002.  She joins us after practicing for three years at Greater Annapolis Veterinary Hospital.  Although she enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, she has a special interest in internal medicine. 

Dr. Bruhl is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, and Anne Arundel Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Bruhl currently lives in Annapolis with her husband, Tim, their dog Elli and Rogue, and three cats, Bethany, Mason and Annie.  Outside of veterinary medicine she enjoys cooking, photography, travel and cheering on the Virginia Tech football team and the Baltimore Orioles.

 


 

Dr. Ryan OlexiaDr. Ryan Olexia

Dr. Olexia grew up in Weirton, WV, a small steel town just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from West Virginia University in 2001 with a degree in Animal and Veterinary Science. He attended veterinary school at the Ohio State University and achieved his DVM in 2005. Immediately following graduation Dr. Olexia began services as a veterinarian in the US Army. Initially he provided veterinary services at Andrews Air Force Base then deployed to the middle east for 1 year as part of an international peace keeping force. After seperating from the Army in 2008 he practiced at Arnold Pet Station for 2 years prior to joining us. He has a special interest in Dentistry, Surgery, and Dermatology.

Dr. Olexia lives in Arnold with his wife Molly, who is also a veterinarian, and their new baby Lily. They shar their home with Max, a "West Virginia squirrel dog", Stella, a retired racing hound, and 2 cats, Rudy and Penelope.

When not occupied with veterinary medicine or his new baby, Dr. Olexia enjoys running, any activity in the woods, and watching sports, primarily the WV Mountaineers or any Pittsburgh team.

 


 

Staff Members

 

Kathy Calvert

Kathy is Dr. Calvert's mother and our Front Office Manager.  She is our morning receptionist but also handles the in-house accounting for Calvert Veterinary Center.  A Philadelphia native, Kathy graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.  Kathy and her husband, Tom (Dr. Calvert's father) have two children.  Dr. Calvert's older brother, Jim, also lives in Pasadena with his wife Joanne and their two daughters, Jessica and Julia.  Kathy has a cat named Dusty who much prefers to see Dr. Calvert when she comes to visit Kathy than when he has to go into the hospital.

 

 




Tammi Holmes

Tammi lives in Mount Airy with her husband, Richard, and their 18 year old daughter, Elizabeth and their collection of furry kids. She has a son, Jason, and granddaughter, Alexis, who lives in Pasadena, as well as a stepdaughter Shannyn and a son-in-law Josh who reside in Hagerstown.  

Tammi also graduated from Chesapeake High School in 1981.

Having worked in the health profession field for the better part of 20 years, Tammi converted to the world of veterinary medicine. After spending most of her time as a nurse technician, she worked for animal rescue in Hanover, Pennsylvania, while she was living in Carroll County. "It was at that time," according to Tammi, "that I decided to change my focus and begin caring for animals instead of people."



Jennifer Marski

Jennifer works with us both as a technician and receptionist.  She has obtained an associate degree in General Studies with thoughts to eventually persue a bachelors degree in an animal related field.  She comes to us from Greater Annapolis Veterinary Hospital with over 4 years of veterinary receptionist and assistant experience.  Jennifer has two cats, Sylvester and Sabrina, and a mixed breed dog named Charlie.  She is married with two sons, Nathan and David.  Jennifer loves working with animals in any capacity.

 


 

 

Sally MullenSally Mullen

Sally, a native of Annapolis currently living in Columbia, joined us in the summer of 2005.  She is a graduate of Frostburg State University's Business Administration program.  She worked with Dr. Calvert at Crofton Veterinary Center for several years before joining our staff. She is currently assisting in surgery and dentistry as well as helping out in exam rooms.  Her babies include two cats: Magpie, Sinatra; a ferret Enigma, and a black lab Nox. When not caring for the pets at work she enjoys cooking, gardening, and enjoying that outdoors with Nox.
 

 


 

 

Laura KitchensLaura Kitchens

Laura first came to us in the fall of 2004 as an intern from the Veterinary Assistant Program at Anne Arundel Community College.  She became a member of our staff that winter and received her Veterinary Assistance Certificate in the spring of 2005.  She now works primarily as a receptionist , but she still helps out occasionally as a technician.  She has also volunteered her time with a Maryland cat and dog rescue, and has fostered dozens of kittens until they were old enough to be put up for adoption.  She has two dogs, both black lab mixes, Zoe and Molly.  Molly joined the family as a foster dog who took up permanent residence in Laura's heart and home.  Then there are three cats: Cassia, Suki, and Loki-Lani.  All have wonderfully different personalities. 
 


 Brandee StoutBrandee Krieger

Brandee joined the Calvert Veterinary team in September of 2006.  She has been working in the veterinary industry for almost 12 years.  She started her technician training at Huffard Animal Hospital and worked there for four years.  After leaving Huffards, she went to work for the Eastern Veterinary Blood Bank as a blood collection assistant in 2002 and eventually became the Director of Regulatory Compliance.  Her love for patient care and hands on technical skills brought her back to working in a hospital environment. Brandee is a Glen Burnie native along with her husband Lee. They are they proud parents of a beautiful 4 year-old daughter, Cami, and 10 month-old Madeline.  Her pets include but are not limited to, two Carolina Dog/American Bulldg mixes, Olive and Leda.


 

 Sarah DunganSarah Dungan

Sarah, a Pasadena native, came to our practice in January 2010 as an intern before joining us full time as a technician. She is a recent graduate of Stevenson University with a bachelor's degree in Biology. Currently, she is taking time off of school before pursuing her master's degree in a science related field.

Sarah recently bought a house in the Glen Burnie area with her soon-to-be husband Jesse and her furry babies who include Gracie, the fox terrier, and Brindle, the bulldog puppy. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys spedning time with her family and planning her April wedding.



Holly DyeHolly Dye

Holly joined the Calvert Veterinary Staff in July 2010. She is originally from Selmer, a small country town in West Tennessee, and moved to Pasadena to live closer to her brother. 

She start working in the veterinary field in 2004. Her experience includes working with small and large animals as well exotic big cats. Some of her favorite experiences include performing pregnancy checks on farm animals and working at the TN Nature Center where she worked with leopards, cougars, servals, caracals and bobcats.

She graduated in 2008 with a BS in Animal Science from The University of Tennessee Knoxville. Starting in the spring she will be attending Ross University College of Veterinary Medicine to pursue her DVM. Her furry family includes Cadence, a 7 year old Husky mix, and Lilly, a 7 year old Lab/Rottweiler mix. When she is not dedicating her time to animals she enjoys travelling the world and doing anything outdoors especially hiking, scuba diving, and surfing.
