Dr. Christine CalvertDr. Christine Calvert

Dr. Calvert is a native of the Pasadena area and is a graduate of Chesapeake Senior High School.  After graduating from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor's in Biochemistry followed by a Doctorate of  Veterinary Medicine, she practiced at Bayside Animal Medical Center in Severna Park, MD.  From there, she took the Chief of Staff position at Crofton Veterinary Center where she practiced medicine and managed the hospital for over two years. Since she made Pasadena her home, it only made sense to open her new veterinary practice there too.  Dr. Calvert has become particularly proficient in laser surgery having performed the technique for over 7 years and will continue to improve her skills with this special tool.  She also has strong interests in feline medicine, greyhounds, rabbits, and  pocket pets.

Her family of pets include Dodger, a greyhound, Annie, a rescued greyhound, and Penelope, a himalayan cat.  Dr. Calvert is a member of the Feline Pracitioners Association, the Veterinary Laser Society, American Veterinary Medical Association, Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, and the Anne Arundel County Veterinary Medical Association.  She attends at least one major continuing education meeting each year.

On her days off, Dr. Calvert is busy with her twin boys Adam and Alex who were born on March 11th 2007.   Her husband, Ken King, is a physical education teacher, Assistant Athletic Director and baseball coach at Chesapeake High School. When not occupied with one of the above activities, he also enjoys fishing.

Staff Members

Debbie NealDebbie Neal

One of our Charter Members, Debbie has lived in Pasadena since 1962 and has been married to her husband Greg for 30 years.  Their son, Shane, and daughter-in-law, Melody, have three children, two girls and a boy who make terrific grandchildren for Debbie and Greg.

All of her life, Debbie has had a deep love for animals.  She has had many critters over the years from lizards and mice to rabbits and birds, and of course dogs and cats.  Currently they have one cat and a Lab/Golden Retriever mix.

Before becoming the Practice Manager of Calvert Veterinary Center, Debbie worked for Pasadena Animal Hospital for over 10 years as a receptionist and a technician where she developed the many skills needed to be successful team member in the veterinary business.  She also worked as a receptionist at Bayside Animal Medical Center for one year and owned and operated a pet sitting business for 4 years.

She enjoys supporting animals that are less fortunate by assisting in such programs as the SPCA, Wildlife Federation, and the Wolf Programs.  Debbie truly has a "sixth sense" when it comes to caring for animals, she knows just how to comfort them and make them feel secure. When she is not loving and caring for animals, she enjoys music, reading, walking, and biking.  She is very excited about having the opportunity to meet your "babies" and will give them lots of TLC while under our care.

Kathy Calvert

Kathy is Dr. Calvert's mother and our Front Office Manager.  She is our morning receptionist but also handles the in-house accounting for Calvert Veterinary Center.  A Philadelphia native, Kathy graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.  Kathy and her husband, Tom (Dr. Calvert's father) have two children.  Dr. Calvert's older brother, Jim, also lives in Pasadena with his wife Joanne and their two daughters, Jessica and Julia.  Kathy has a cat named Dusty who much prefers to see Dr. Calvert when she comes to visit Kathy than when he has to go into the hospital.

Tammi Holmes

Tammi lives in Pasadena with her husband Richard and their 13-year old daughter, Elizabeth.  She also has a son, Jason, who lives in Ellicott City and a grandaugter, Alexis.

Tammi has two dogs, Jewell, a Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix, and Cricket, a pug.  They share the house with her cat, Cotton, and new kitten, Myllee.

Tammi also graduated from Chesapeake High School.

Having worked in the health professions field for the better part of the last 20 years, Tammi is a recent convert to the world of veterinary medicine.  After spending most of her time as a nurse technician, she recently worked for animal rescue in Hanover, Pennsylvania while she was living in Carroll County.  "It was at that time," according to Tammi, "that I decided to change my focus and begin caring for animals instead of people."

Laura first came to us in the fall of 2004 as an intern from the Veterinary Assistant Program at Anne Arundel Community College.  She became a member of our staff that winter and received her Veterinary Assistance Certificate in the spring of 2005.  She now works primarily as a receptionist , but she still helps out occasionally as a technician.  She has also volunteered her time with a Maryland cat and dog rescue, and has fostered dozens of kittens until they were old enough to be put up for adoption.  She has two dogs, both black lab mixes, Zoe and Molly.  Molly joined the family as a foster dog who took up permanent residence in Laura's heart and home.  Then there are four cats: Stache, Cassia, Suki, and Loki-Lani.  All have wonderfully different personalities.  Besides working with animals, Laura is a wife and mother of a high school graduate.  Her son, Michael, has taken up his mother's passion for animals.  In his room, he keeps fresh and salt water fish tanks and three lizards.  Also now, two ferrets, named Cooper and Cami, have moved in.
